Many people think that life outside our homeland is like heaven. Many people are coming to Europe and US with the dream. A dream of success, good jobs and a lot of money etc...
Is that so easy? Are we living in the dream world?
Please tell us the truth people!
I my self have been in Sweden for the 17 years. I have seen everything which can be seen in this world. The opportunity is huge if you are coming as a kid.
It is bless to be here, I feel but the road to a better life hadn't been so easy. I have passed life of down and ups. Life is such some might be able to say but this is different, when you are different as black African kid.
My life experience is different compare to those kids from our mother continent Africa. We continue later with my view of life in sweden and esperiences but...
But imagine how harder it is for those who are coming as adults to Europe or US.
What were their hopes and dreams? How hard is this new language to learn? Tell us your problems, we might find some answers to it or tell us your success history and we might learn something from it.

First and for most i will like to tank the person who bring this idea who give us the opportunity to say so. well for me its been one year since i came to sweden to tell the truth life is not easy every where but i also didnot expect this kind of hardship or difficulities to find job or to adopt the enironment, the wheather, the culture everything. when we come to the language its not easy to speake easily as we know it is not easy to live in one country with out knowing the language so when one person lives his conutry he has to think about all of this situations and how to handle it most of us we were education back ground some of us we were managers, docters, teachers, etc. But when we come here even it is diffiucult to fine some normal work like cleaning, or take caring peoples. Most of us when we are in ethiopia when a person came from out side countries it can be from europa, us or asia we expect that person has go a very nice work that he live with very good condition but when we come here and face the reality what we thought and what we see become very different. so we have to tell the real thing coz most of the people including me when we live our country we expect everything like heaven but that is not the case. What i want to say for all of the peoples living in out side countries must give the real picture and must help one another it can be with the language or finding job even it is better if every habesha creat his own association to help those peoples live their country for the first time if we do so hope we may help our sisters and brothers from a big confusion and stress. so as the fonder of HABESH NETWORK says what we need is love if we have love for one another and help each other even we can change our country and we can return to our home land to live with our families with in our cultur and speacking our language, if i say so with by my one year experiance most of you who live out side contry for a long time hope you will share us alot so that can help both of the peoples who live here and for those who plan to live their home land.Thank you again for giving me this chance.

I have very similar experience like you, I am blessed in some many ways and very grateful to Almighty God and to my family. I can only image how hard it is. I have met very few Ethiopians who came to Europe as adult, they did very well. I am proud of them, I think the key is not to give-up and work hard.
A friend of mine told me this story when I was going through very difficult time. It made me to see things in different perspective. I am not sure this will help some one? If not nice story to read.
It goes.
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day a small opening appeared. He sat and watched the butterfly for several hours as it struggled to force it is body through that little hole. Then is seemed to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could, and it could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of scissors and snipped off the reaming bit 0f the cocoon.
The butterfly then emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shrivelled wings. The man continued to watch the butterfly because he excepted that, at any moment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of its life crawling around with a swollen body and shrivelled wings. it never able to fly.
What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the restricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the cocoon.
It is nice to see that you have this website to discuss such things. But I don’t think many people are participating. I used to live in Sweden before and I now live in London. I believe life is what you make it. In life you are the architecture of your happiness and success regardless of where you are. I know there are lots of challenges when you live in Sweden and else where. But what makes life sweet is when you overcome that challenge and achieve your goal. Most of our people from back home have wrong image of Europe and US. I have met many people here in London who were doing well back home, but they left all that and came over to London. They felt they missed out something. What they expected and what they found is totally different. Now they can not go back and they are not happy here.
My point being is that it is not the location or the country that makes you happy or successful. You can still make it have a good life back home in Ethiopia.

I agree with you, that ppl are not ready to discuss and share lifes experience to other instead of just disappear with all the knowledge. We should be more efficent when working, we should be more helpfull.
There are a lot of group/nations who are good exampel of such a good network. Why can't we do it?
